What has Changed with Solar Energy?
Solar Energy has a bright future. Let's look at the big picture. Because of the increased costs of fossil fuel and concerns about energy security and independence more and more people are seriously looking into using Solar Energy. The U.S. can no longer ignore its energy disorder. For more than a century we have built our society around the idea that cheap, reliable, ubiquitous energy is necessary to maintain a thriving economy.
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar System
Photovoltaic systems use an array of solar panels to convert solar energy from the sun into electricity. Most solar panels are installed in a series using lightweight aluminum racks attached to a sunlit roof area of your house or business. A PV system uses a solar panel inverter to change the electricity from Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC). A net meter measures how much electricity you use and how much you create.
Solar Panels
Solar Panels convert the suns energy into electricity that you can use in your home or business. There are a variety of brands, sizes, and types to choose from. Most solar panels will produce from 50 to 200 watts. Solar panels or Photovoltaic (PV) modules are made up of a wired grid of combined solar cells. Each solar cell is made from a semiconductor material, usually silicon. The panel is encased in glass to protect it from the weather. The panels are usually mounted to a rack in a sunny location on top of a roof.
