A relatively new PV technology known as building-integrated photovoltaics use a building material such as a roof shingle or window with PV cells directly laminated on to it.  The material is multifunctional because it serves as part of the building and generates clean electricity.  BIPV is an environmentally friendly building component in new construction and major renovation.  Building-Integrated Photovoltaic modules can be used on a house or building's roof or south facing facade.
